Inwit to acquire data center assets from Wind Tre for €100 million

Italian telecom infrastructure company Infrastrutture Wireless Italiane (Inwit) is set to acquire data center assets and telephone exchanges from Wind Tre, a subsidiary of CK Hutchison Holdings, for approximately €100 million ($117 million). The transaction, expected to be finalized by the end of the week, marks Inwit's strategic pivot from traditional telecom tower operations to data center management, aligning with similar moves by global tower companies like American Tower. CK Hutchison may retain a minority stake in the transferred assets or the new entity. The deal follows a public dispute between Inwit and Italian carriers Fastweb, Vodafone, and Telecom Italia over the termination of long-term tower lease agreements, with Inwit challenging the legality of the proposed exits. Wind Tre operates as the Italian arm of CK Hutchison, which also holds stakes in telecommunications ventures across Europe.
