K” Line acquires full ownership of offshore wind unit KWS
Japanese shipping giant Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line) completed the full acquisition of its offshore wind unit K” Line Wind Service (KWS) on March 31, 2026, converting the joint venture into a wholly owned subsidiary. The transaction eliminates the previous 50% stake held by Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha, enabling “K” Line to accelerate decision-making and integrate KWS’s operations more closely with its broader offshore wind strategy. KWS, established in 2021 by “K” Line and Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha, specializes in offshore wind support vessels, including work vessels and geotechnical survey vessels critical for project development. The move aligns with “K” Line’s broader push into the offshore wind sector, as outlined in its 2025 strategic expansion plans. Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha and Offshore Operation Co. will continue supporting KWS’s operations within the group, ensuring continuity in vessel services for marine resource development and offshore construction projects.
