Madagascar’s state-owned utility Jirama and the country’s rural electrification development agency, ADER, have signed 46 memoranda of understanding for new solar projects. These agreements encompass a combined capacity totalling 932 MW across 46 public and private partners. Jirama signed 39 of the deals, covering 55 prospective solar power plants with a planned total capacity of 526 MW. ADER's agreements account for the remaining seven deals, reaching a combined 406.72 MW. The next steps involve converting these MOUs into firm contracts to launch construction work across several regions of the island, aiming to improve electricity access and reduce dependency on imported fuels.
