Metrobloks secured rezoning approval from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission for a $500 million data center project in Martindale Brightwood, a neighborhood northeast of Indianapolis, Indiana. The IND A1 facility will deliver 72MW of capacity at full buildout across 154,000 sq ft (14,307 sqm) of whitespace, utilizing a closed-loop cooling system to minimize environmental impact. The 14-acre site at 2505 North Sherman Drive has remained vacant since 1983, previously operating as a drive-in theater. Metrobloks, led by CEO Ernest Popescu—a former executive at Iron Mountain, Meta, and Amazon—specializes in AI-ready metro edge data centers. The project faced opposition from local group Protect Martindale Brightwood, which argued the development would harm the environment and constitute environmental racism by targeting Black legacy neighborhoods.
