Microsoft and Armada partner to deploy Azure Local in Galleon modular data centers for sovereign AI at the Edge

Partnership Data Center announced Global Apr 1, 2026

Microsoft and Armada announced a partnership to integrate Microsoft’s Azure Local cloud platform with Armada’s Galleon modular Edge data centers, enabling sovereign AI capabilities in disconnected or contested environments. The collaboration allows customers to run workloads with Azure cloud services and AI features even without reliable connectivity, targeting governments and regulated industries. Armada’s Galleon modules are portable, ruggedized data centers, while Microsoft’s Azure Local brings cloud capabilities on-premises, including AI workloads via Nvidia servers added in November 2025. The partnership addresses the need for secure, resilient, and locally controlled cloud operations in mission-critical settings. Dan Wright, Armada’s CEO, emphasized the combined solution’s ability to scale from today’s needs to future intelligent systems. Douglas Phillips, Microsoft’s CTO for specialized clouds, highlighted the importance of sovereign cloud capabilities for digital transformation.
