Mortenson acquires Nor-Cal Controls to bolster utility-scale solar integration capabilities

Acquisition Hybrid announced United States Apr 13, 2026

Mortenson acquired Nor-Cal Controls, a California-based provider of energy management systems, to internalize power plant control and SCADA engineering capabilities. The transaction enables Mortenson to address technical bottlenecks that frequently delay project commissioning and grid synchronization for utility-scale solar-plus-storage hybrid plants. Nor-Cal Controls has delivered Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Power Plant Controller (PPC) systems for over 14 GW of solar and storage assets, serving as the central interface between renewable energy facilities and utility grids. By integrating Nor-Cal’s specialized controllers, Mortenson aims to streamline the transition from physical construction to commercial operation, reducing delays caused by third-party software vendor coordination. The acquisition positions Mortenson to handle the full lifecycle of energy transition infrastructure, with Nor-Cal Controls continuing to operate as a standalone brand under Mortenson’s portfolio.
