MTerra Solar begins supplying 85 MW from its solar and battery project to the Luzon grid

The initial 85 MW supply from MTerra Solar represents a critical step in integrating a massive 3,500 MWp solar and 4,500 MWh battery facility into the Luzon grid, directly addressing the Philippines' peak daytime demand. Meralco PowerGen Corporation, through Terra Solar Philippines Inc., is strategically deploying mid-merit power to stabilize supply for Meralco's 7.6 million customers, particularly in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces. This phased delivery, beginning with 85 MW, allows for a controlled ramp-up of one of the country's largest hybrid projects. The project's design, pairing solar photovoltaic capacity with a substantial battery energy storage system, ensures reliable power delivery even as solar generation fluctuates. This initial supply, energized on March 14, 2026, sets the stage for the full 3,500 MWp capacity to provide clean energy to approximately 2.4 million households. For Meralco, the Philippines' largest electric distribution utility, this project directly supports its core mission of serving over 7.6 million customers, ensuring grid stability with mid-merit power. Meralco PowerGen Corporation, as Meralco's power generation arm, is actively balancing its portfolio by developing and operating this significant hybrid facility. The phased construction, with Phase 1 on track for completion this year and Phase 2 already underway, demonstrates MGen's commitment to scaling its generation assets. Coordination with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines will be essential for integrating the project's future output into the Luzon grid, ultimately avoiding an estimated 4.3 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
