Nam Cheong sells two offshore support vessels for $36.7 million
Malaysia-based offshore support vessel (OSV) provider Nam Cheong finalized the sale of two vessels for $36.7 million, marking its first newbuild sale in over a decade. The transactions included a newly built multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV) and a 16-year-old anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel, which was divested following the completion of its charter contract in Q1 2026. Both vessels were delivered in Q2 2026 to an Indonesian vessel operator and a government-linked operator in Egypt. Proceeds from the sales will be reinvested into Nam Cheong's shipbuilding operations or fleet expansion, aligning with the company's fleet optimization strategy to recycle capital by selling older vessels while maintaining flexibility for newbuilds. The divestments underscore Nam Cheong's ability to capitalize on market opportunities for vessel monetization, with the CEO noting increasing demand for newbuilds amid an ageing global OSV fleet.
