Neoen unveils 100MW Ako Battery project in Japan's Kansai region

Neoen announced the Ako Battery, a 100MW/400MWh energy storage project in Japan's Kansai region, marking its first large-scale battery investment in the country. The project, located in Hyogo Prefecture, is scheduled to begin construction in the coming months with operations expected to commence in 2028. Neoen is collaborating with Equans and Toho on the project, and secured a grid connection agreement with Kansai Electric Power Company in January 2026. This four-hour duration battery will support the Japanese grid by enhancing stability and resilience, expanding Neoen's global battery storage portfolio to 2.8GW/8.1GWh across seven countries.
