NKT secures supply agreement with Wärtsilä, NOV REMACUT, and ABB for NKT Eleonora cable-laying vessel
NKT finalized a supply agreement with Wärtsilä, NOV REMACUT, and ABB for the NKT Eleonora cable-laying vessel (CLV), a 176.5-meter vessel designed by Salt Ship Design. Wärtsilä will supply methanol-capable Wärtsilä 32 engines, a front tunnel, and azimuth thruster, while NOV REMACUT provides the cable lay system, cranes, and mission equipment. ABB will deliver its Onboard DC Grid power distribution system for the vessel, which is under construction at Vard’s shipyard in Tulcea, Romania. The NKT Eleonora is equipped with three turntables and offers a cable-laying capacity of 23,000 tonnes, positioning NKT as a key player in offshore wind infrastructure deployment. The vessel’s dual-fuel capability—running on methanol and HVO/marine diesel oil—aligns with NKT’s sustainability strategy for renewable energy projects. The keel laying ceremony took place in January 2025, marking a critical milestone in the vessel’s construction timeline.
