NYK acquires 50% stake in Avenir LNG Limited from Stolt-Nielsen Gas Ltd.
Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) agreed to acquire a 50% equity stake in Avenir LNG Limited from Stolt-Nielsen Gas Ltd. for an undisclosed sum, expanding its portfolio in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering sector. The transaction, expected to close by the end of Q2 2026 pending regulatory approvals, strengthens NYK’s position in sustainable marine fuel solutions amid a surge in dual-fuel LNG vessel orders. Avenir LNG, founded in 2017, operates a global fleet of LNG bunkering vessels, while NYK, established in 1885, provides transportation services across container, automotive, dry bulk, and energy carrier markets. Stolt-Nielsen Gas Ltd., a subsidiary of Stolt-Nielsen Limited, specializes in integrated bulk-liquid logistics and storage. WFW’s London team led the deal, advising on corporate, asset finance, regulatory, environmental, and LNG supply contract aspects, with Appleby providing Bermudan law support.
