Austrian AI data center developer OnZero Finland signed a partnership agreement with Finnish energy firm Helen to connect its AI data center in Helsinki to the city's district heating network. The facility will supply up to 525,000 MWh of heat annually, equivalent to the heating needs of 70,000 apartment homes in Helsinki, with operations expected to begin in 2027. OnZero's design combines high-performance AI computing with liquid-cooled architecture capable of capturing up to 99% of generated heat for district heating use. The company claims its data centers operate with zero on-site water consumption by rejecting heat into district networks rather than evaporative cooling. This deal forms part of OnZero's AI Heat Factory commercial deployment strategy and serves as a reference for planned expansion across Europe.
