Global Infrastructure SherpaOrano and Eramet sign partnership agreement for lithium extraction
Orano and Eramet have signed a partnership agreement to develop a process for extracting lithium from geothermal brines in France. The partnership aims to produce lithium for use in batteries for electric vehicles.

Eleven European companies have asked the Commission for a “clear requirement for a minimum local content” that would promote “the development of a competitive European industry for lithium and battery minerals”. The companies are asking that “at least 20%” of the lithium used in batteries be “extracted, processed or recycled within the European Union” by 2031, and 40% by 2036.
