Phelan Energy Group selects Honeywell technology for 140,000-tonne eSAF plant in South Africa

Phelan Energy Group finalized a supply agreement with Honeywell to deploy proprietary technology for a 140,000-tonne per year sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) production facility in South Africa. The project marks one of the largest eSAF initiatives globally and positions South Africa as a key player in the global sustainable aviation fuel supply chain. Honeywell will provide its proprietary ethanol-to-jet (ETJ) technology, which converts ethanol into SAF, enabling Phelan to produce fuel meeting international aviation standards. Located in South Africa, the plant is expected to commence operations by 2028, aligning with global decarbonization targets in aviation. The agreement underscores Phelan’s strategic pivot toward low-carbon fuel production, leveraging Honeywell’s proven technology platform used in over 50 facilities worldwide. No financial terms or equity stakes were disclosed in the announcement.
