German cloud and data center firm Polarise announced plans to build an AI data center in Amberg, Bavaria, with an initial capacity of 30MW. Polarise will acquire the former Wertachtal shortwave transmission building and adjacent land from a consortium consisting of local utility Stadtwerke Bad Vilbel and the local citizens’ foundation for conversion into the data center. The facility is planned for launch in mid-2027 and could potentially reach 120MW, with WV Energie AG developing 31MWp of solar capacity, a 21MW wind farm, and a battery storage system to cover its energy requirements.
