Rosatom's Atomenergomash subsidiary successfully installed the second tier of the inner containment building for Unit 7 of the Leningradskaya AES-2 project on March 9, 2026. This milestone advances the construction of the VVER-1200 reactor, part of a project valued at over 200 billion rubles ($2.2 billion) aimed at replacing aging units and supporting Russia's goal of 30 GW nuclear capacity by 2035. Unit 7, with a capacity of 1,200 MWe, is anticipated to achieve fuel loading in late 2028 and grid connection by 2029, enhancing regional energy security and providing baseload power to the Leningrad region.
