Ørsted acquired the 150 MW Salzburg battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Michigan from ESA Solar Energy, marking a strategic expansion of its U.S. energy storage portfolio. The Salzburg BESS project, located in Michigan, has advanced through critical development milestones including permitting and interconnection process advancements, with commercial operation targeted between 2029 and 2030. ESA Solar Energy, leveraging its expertise in early-phase project development, partnered with Ørsted to position the project for long-term contributions to Michigan’s clean energy capacity goals. Ørsted emphasized the project’s strategic location and its role in supporting Michigan’s clean energy and electrification growth, particularly as renewable energy scales and grid reliability becomes increasingly dependent on storage solutions. Ascend Energy Exchange served as the exclusive financial and transaction advisor to ESA Solar Energy, providing asset valuation, financial modeling, market outlook analysis, and transaction advisory services throughout the deal process.
