Saft to supply additional 100 MW / 200 MWh battery storage system for Genesis Energy's Huntly BESS expansion in New Zealand
French energy multinational TotalEnergies' battery division, Saft, agreed to supply an additional 100 MW / 200 MWh of lithium-ion battery storage for Genesis Energy's Huntly battery energy storage system (BESS) project in New Zealand. The expansion doubles the original 100 MW / 200 MWh system commissioned in the first stage, bringing the total capacity to 200 MW / 400 MWh at the Huntly Power Station site on New Zealand's North Island. Construction on the second stage is scheduled to begin in Q2 of FY27 (June 1–July 31 fiscal year), with commissioning planned for FY2028, translating to early 2029 on the calendar. The project is part of Genesis Energy's 'Huntly Portfolio' of energy storage assets, aimed at enhancing grid flexibility and supporting New Zealand's renewable energy transition. The total estimated cost for the second stage is NZ$106 million (USD 62 million), with only minor new consents required for construction activities.
