Saipem secures Urea License Agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for new fertilizer plant in Turkmenistan
Saipem secured a Urea License Agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) for the supply of its proprietary Snamprogetti™ Urea technology and related engineering services for a new fertilizer plant in Turkmenistan. The urea unit will have a production capacity of 3,500 tonnes per day and will be designed to meet high standards of efficiency, reliability, and safety. This follows Saipem's previous collaboration with MHI on the Garabogazkarbamid plant in Garabogaz, Turkmenistan, commissioned in 2018, where Saipem also supplied the Snamprogetti™ Urea technology. The new contract reinforces Saipem's leadership in the fertilizer sector and highlights the global reliability of its Snamprogetti™ Urea technology, which has been deployed in 147 units worldwide. The agreement is part of a broader industrial collaboration between Saipem and MHI, which expanded in 2023 to include carbon capture technologies for large-scale CCUS projects.
