The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) received a $60.4 million grant from the State of California to fund electric bus and light rail modernization projects. The funding will support the Electrification of Kearny Mesa Division, including construction of a new overhead charging system for 30 battery-electric buses, and upgrades to the Orange Line corridor with safety enhancements, signal improvements, and track upgrades. The projects aim to transition MTS to a 100% zero-emission bus fleet by 2040 and improve service reliability and sustainability.
