Seadrill adopts igus' modular energy chains for drillships

Houston-headquartered Seadrill, a global offshore drilling contractor with a 12-rig fleet specializing in harsh environment and deepwater operations, is upgrading its critical top drive systems. The company has adopted igus' e-loop modular energy chains, first on its West Polaris and subsequently on the West Capella drillship, to replace traditional service loops. This move directly addresses operational reliability, aiming to significantly reduce downtime and cut maintenance costs in challenging offshore conditions. By leveraging igus' high-performance polymer and composite rope technology, Seadrill is looking to extend the service life of cables and hoses, a key factor for sustained deepwater drilling efficiency.
