Shell advances Loran-Manatee offshore gas field development with Trinidad and Tobago's National Gas Company

Partnership Gas announced Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela Apr 10, 2026

Shell announced plans to begin natural gas production in 2027 from the Loran-Manatee offshore field, a transboundary project spanning Venezuelan and Trinidadian waters. The project aims to supply gas to Trinidad's liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petrochemical facilities, addressing the country's need for fresh gas supplies under interim Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez's administration. Shell increased the pipeline capacity to 1 billion cubic feet per day, up from the originally planned 700 million cubic feet per day, to transport gas to Trinidad's Beachfield facility via a 32-inch pipeline instead of the 24-inch pipeline initially proposed. The Loran-Manatee field holds an estimated 10 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves, with Loran containing 7.3 trillion cubic feet and Manatee holding 2.7 trillion cubic feet. Shell has not yet taken a final investment decision on the Venezuelan side of the project, Loran, but expects to begin production at the Trinidadian Manatee field in 2027.
