Siemens AG awarded EUR 40 million supply contract for Vulcan Energy's lithium project in Germany
Industrial group Siemens AG secured a EUR 40 million (USD 47.08 million) framework contract to supply engineering, automation, telecommunications, and building technology systems for Vulcan Energy's integrated lithium and renewable energy project in Germany's Upper Rhine Valley. The project targets the production of lithium hydroxide monohydrate, a key component for electric vehicle batteries, using Vulcan's Zero Carbon Lithium process powered by renewable energy. Scheduled for completion by 2026, the project aims to produce 15,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide annually, supporting Europe's battery supply chain independence. Siemens will provide critical infrastructure systems including process control, electrical distribution, and digitalization solutions to ensure operational efficiency and sustainability. The contract underscores Siemens' role in enabling Europe's transition to sustainable energy and battery production.
