Southern LNG and partners to invest over US$16 billion in Vaca Muerta gas liquefaction and export project starting in 2027
Southern and Pan American Energy are advancing the Vaca Muerta LNG export project in Argentina, committing over US$16 billion to develop liquefaction infrastructure and export facilities. The project aims to begin operations in 2027, addressing current infrastructure bottlenecks in Vaca Muerta, which holds an estimated 308 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves. The initiative targets the monetization of stranded gas resources through liquefaction and maritime export, leveraging Southern's existing gas production capabilities in the region. The investment will fund new liquefaction plants, storage tanks, and port facilities to enable LNG shipments via dedicated vessels. This deal represents one of the largest infrastructure investments in Argentina's energy sector in recent years, positioning the country to become a material LNG exporter in Latin America.
