Tenaska and Tennessee Valley Authority sign 20-year energy storage agreement for 225 MW / 900 MWh battery project in Tennessee
Tenaska and its affiliate Bobwhite Energy Storage signed a 20-year energy storage agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for the 225 MW / 900 MWh Bobwhite battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Hawkins County, Tennessee. The $300 million investment will begin construction in 2027 and reach commercial operation by late 2029, supporting TVA's broader effort to strengthen grid reliability and manage peak demand across its seven-state service territory. With this project, TVA has now signed 425 MW of standalone BESS capacity, aiming to integrate more diverse energy sources while maintaining affordable power costs for over 10 million customers. The project is expected to create approximately 75 jobs during peak construction and prioritize skilled workers from surrounding communities, boosting the local economy in Hawkins County. Tenaska, an independent energy company based in Omaha, Nebraska, has a development portfolio including 7,000 MW of battery storage and 14,000 MW of natural gas and renewable power projects, positioning the Bobwhite project as part of its broader grid stability strategy.
