A joint venture between TotalEnergies and Eren Groupe, operating as TE H2 and Darwin H2 Project Nominee, has submitted plans for the Wak Wak Solar Farm, a 2.7GW solar PV and 6GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Australia's Northern Territory. This project, located 48km southeast of Darwin, is the first phase of a planned solar-powered green hydrogen production and export operation. The facility will generate renewable energy for the Greater Darwin Region's existing industry and power a green hydrogen production facility at the Middle Arm Precinct, aiming to produce over 80,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually. The project area spans up to 3,400 hectares, with a disturbance footprint of 2,500 hectares, and includes 900 hectares of wildlife corridors. An overhead transmission line, approximately 30km long, is also planned to connect the facility to the Middle Arm Precinct within an existing Northern Territory government utilities corridor.

The project design has avoided known sacred sites, flood-prone areas, high-quality vegetation, threatened species habitats, and threatened flora records. Most of the project area sits on a perpetual pastoral lease, with smaller portions on freehold land. Works will include land clearing and site preparation, construction of solar PV and BESS infrastructure, ongoing operation and maintenance, and potential repowering after 30 years of operation before eventual decommissioning and site rehabilitation.
