UGL awarded EPC contract for Neoen's 164 MW / 905 MWh Muchea battery project in Western Australia
UGL secured an EPC contract from Neoen to construct the 164 MW / 905 MWh Muchea battery project in Western Australia, marking a key milestone in the state's energy transition. The project, located 43 kilometers northeast of Perth, will integrate 252 Tesla Megapack 2XL units and connect to Western Power's Muchea substation within the South-West Interconnected System. Construction began in April 2026, with bulk civil works underway and Tesla Megapacks expected to arrive for installation in the coming months. Once operational in 2027, the battery will provide critical grid stability and reliability services, supporting Western Australia's shift to renewables. The project is underpinned by a Capacity Investment Scheme agreement with the federal government, ensuring long-term viability. UGL will also design and construct a 132 kV substation, with testing and commissioning support following installation.
