US Navy awards $54M contract to Gecko Robotics for maintenance support
The US Navy has awarded a 5-year, $54 million indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract to Gecko Robotics to support maintenance efforts for its surface fleet. The contract will see Gecko deploy its robotic systems, including drones, wall-climbing robots, and fixed sensors, to gather data on ship components, decks, welds, and hulls. This data, paired with AI tools, will help identify current and potential structural issues, streamlining repairs and reducing maintenance delays. The partnership aims to improve the Navy's readiness, with a goal of having 80% of its fleet ready to deploy at any given time by 2027. Gecko's technology has already shown promise, with a single robotic evaluation and digital rendering of a flight deck eliminating over three months of potential maintenance delay days. The contract will initially focus on 18 ships assigned to the Navy's U.S. Pacific Fleet.
