Uruguay’s state-owned utility UTE awarded a combined engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract along with a two-year operation and maintenance (O&M) agreement to the Teyma-Prodiel consortium for the 100 MWp Parque Solar Fotovoltaico Melo. The project, located in Cerro Largo, represents Uruguay’s largest solar plant and will require an investment exceeding $75 million, with commercial operation scheduled for 2028. Teyma-Prodiel, a joint venture between Uruguayan and Spanish firms, previously collaborated with UTE on the 30 MWp Punta del Tigre solar park, which entered service in November 2024. The new facility will deploy approximately 140,000 solar panels with tracking systems, feeding power into the national grid via a new 150 kV connection at the Melo B substation. Construction is expected to generate over 100 jobs and supply electricity to 65,000 users, reinforcing Uruguay’s solar capacity, which stood at around 330 MW in 2024.
