Vodafone Idea and BSNL are in discussions to share network infrastructure, including towers, fiber, and potentially spectrum. This collaboration aims to reduce costs and expand coverage for both operators, creating a stronger third choice for customers in the Indian market. The Department of Telecommunications confirmed these talks in a report submitted to a parliamentary panel last month, indicating discussions are moving beyond simple tower sharing towards active infrastructure sharing. The partnership is driven by the financial and operational challenges faced by both companies, including subscriber losses and falling average revenue per user. Vodafone Idea is under material debt, while BSNL has faced delayed technology upgrades and a declining market share, having launched its pan-India 4G network only last year.
