Welspun New Energy signs 200 MW solar-plus-storage PPA with SECI

Welspun New Energy signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) for a 200 MW solar project integrated with a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The deal marks Welspun New Energy’s first PPA incorporating energy storage, following its successful bid in a SECI auction at a tariff of INR 2.86/kWh. Under SECI’s tender requirements, each 1 MW of solar capacity must be supported by at least 500 kW/2 MWh of energy storage, with projects permitted anywhere in India and connecting to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS).
